Powerpack End-of-Life & Safety Considerations

FONZ Powerpacks are designed and tested to deliver reliable performance and safety throughout their expected service life when used and maintained in accordance with manufacturer guidelines.

FONZ Powerpacks are designed and tested to provide reliable performance throughout their expected service life when used and maintained in accordance with FONZ guidelines.

Like all lithium-ion batteries, Powerpacks naturally change over time as the cells age. This is a normal part of battery ownership and can gradually affect capacity, performance and charging characteristics.

To ensure continued reliability and operation within FONZ's design specifications, FONZ defines an expected service life of up to seven years for each Powerpack.

What is the expected service life of a FONZ Powerpack?

FONZ Powerpacks are engineered to provide reliable performance when used and maintained according to manufacturer guidelines.

Over time, the cells within a Powerpack naturally age. This may gradually affect the Powerpack's capacity and performance, just as it does with other lithium-ion batteries.

For this reason, FONZ defines the expected service life of a Powerpack as up to seven years.

Once a Powerpack reaches this point, FONZ recommends replacement to maintain the vehicle's reliability and ensure it continues to operate within its intended specifications, even if the Powerpack appears to be performing normally.

Why is replacement recommended after seven years?

Battery components naturally age over time. As a Powerpack gets older:

  • Cell capacity and performance can gradually change
  • Charging and performance characteristics may differ from when the Powerpack was new
  • The Battery Management System (BMS) continues to manage the Powerpack within its designed operating parameters

The seven-year service life provides a clear point at which FONZ recommends replacement, rather than relying on apparent performance alone.

This does not mean a Powerpack will suddenly stop working at seven years. It is a manufacturer service-life recommendation intended to support long-term reliability and safe operation.

Charging and storage

For the best performance and longevity, Powerpacks should always be charged and stored in accordance with FONZ guidelines.

If your Powerpack is approaching or has passed seven years of service, FONZ recommends arranging a replacement rather than continuing to rely on the original Powerpack.

FONZ recommendation

To maintain vehicle reliability and operation within FONZ specifications:

  • Replace the Powerpack once it reaches its recommended seven-year service life
  • Use genuine FONZ Powerpacks and approved charger units
  • Follow FONZ guidelines for charging, storage, servicing and disposal
  • Contact FONZ if you are unsure about the age, condition or performance of your Powerpack

End-of-life handling

When a Powerpack reaches the end of its recommended service life, it should be replaced and handled through FONZ or an approved battery recycling/disposal channel.

Powerpacks that have reached the end of their service life should not be resold or reused in another vehicle.

Once a Powerpack reaches the end of its recommended service life, FONZ can assist with the appropriate replacement and recycling process. Powerpacks should not be transferred to another vehicle or reused outside their intended application.

At FONZ we believe our responsibility for your Powerpack doesn't end when it reaches end of service life. This article gives information on how Powerpack's are recycled to ensure safe and responsible disposal of battery cells. Read more

What is inside a FONZ Powerpack?
A FONZ Powerpack is a complete, integrated energy system designed specifically for FONZ vehicles. It contains lithium-ion cells, a Battery Management System (BMS) and built-in monitoring and protection systems that work together to manage the battery during charging and riding.

The Powerpack is a sealed unit and is not designed to be opened, modified or serviced by the owner. For this reason, only genuine FONZ Powerpacks and approved chargers should be used.

Important Information
FONZ Powerpacks contain lithium-ion cells and are designed specifically for use with FONZ vehicles and approved FONZ chargers. To maintain safe and reliable operation, Powerpacks must be used, charged, stored and maintained in accordance with FONZ manufacturer guidelines.

Powerpacks must not be opened, modified, repaired or used outside their intended application, including beyond the recommended service life. Failure to follow FONZ guidelines may affect Powerpack performance, reliability and safe operation.

FONZ accepts no responsibility for damage, injury or other loss arising from misuse, unauthorised modification, use of non-approved components or chargers, or failure to follow FONZ manufacturer guidelines, including recommended service-life and end-of-life procedures.
