Features and functions of the FONZ tyre pressure sensors including effects of temperature, tolerance
Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
Arthur 7 and Z Series models are equipped with a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) that continuously monitors the air pressure in both the front and rear tyres. Tyre pressure is displayed in PSI on the digital dashboard.
After powering on the vehicle, it may take a few moments for the tyre pressure readings to appear.
Removing and Refitting a TPMS Sensor
To remove the sensor and add air:
-
Using the supplied spanner, loosen the lock nut located behind the sensor by turning it clockwise (when viewed from the front of the sensor).
-
Turn the TPMS sensor counter-clockwise to remove it from the valve stem.
-
Inflate the tyre to the recommended pressure.
To refit the sensor:
-
Thread the lock nut back onto the valve stem by approximately two turns, leaving a small gap so the sensor does not immediately contact the lock nut.
-
Screw the TPMS sensor onto the valve stem by turning it clockwise until hand-tight.
-
Once the sensor is secure, use the spanner to tighten the lock nut against the sensor by turning it counter-clockwise (when facing the sensor).
Temperature Effects on Tyre Pressure
Tyre pressure naturally fluctuates with temperature changes. As a general guide:
-
A temperature drop of 10°C will reduce tyre pressure by approximately 1 psi.
-
During riding, as the tyres warm up, pressure may increase by 1–4 psi over a 30-minute commute.
These variations are normal and should be taken into account when checking tyre pressure.
TPMS Accuracy and Tolerance
FONZ TPMS sensors have a measurement tolerance of approximately ±1.5 psi (±0.103 bar). This means the displayed pressure may vary slightly from the actual tyre pressure within this range.
The TPMS will activate a warning indicator if tyre pressure falls below or exceeds the recommended pressure thresholds.
TPMS are fitted to new Arthur 7 and Z Series models and later. Arthur 6 can have tyre pressure sensors fitted when upgrading to the MY25 digital display.
TPMS sensors are a direct system, located in place of the valve. It may become damaged by incidents such as hitting a curb, riding through a pothole, or riding on unsealed roads.
