Why Performance & Controller Settings Aren’t Customer-Accessible

We know many FONZ riders are deeply interested in how their vehicles work, and a lot of our community is highly technical. That curiosity and passion for performance is something we genuinely appreciate and design for. At the same time, there are a few important reasons why access to certain system settings (such as controller parameters and internal algorithms) is restricted.

1. Compliance with Australian Design Rules (ADR)

All FONZ vehicles are engineered, tested and certified to meet the requirements of the Australian Design Rules (ADR).

This certification is based on:

  • fixed performance configurations
  • defined performance outputs
  • validated safety and braking behaviour
  • battery (powerpack) management parameters

As part of this process, we are required to demonstrate that the vehicle operates safely and consistently in its delivered configuration.

If internal settings or algorithms are accessed or modified outside of factory control:

  • the vehicle may no longer meet ADR compliance
  • the original certification no longer applies
  • it can create legal and regulatory exposure for both the rider and manufacturer

From a regulatory standpoint, manufacturers must ensure that vehicles are effectively tamper-resistant in relation to safety-critical systems. Providing access to these parameters would conflict with that obligation.

"Manufacturers must ensure that vehicles are effectively tamper-resistant in relation to safety-critical systems"

2. Warranty & System Integrity

Your vehicle’s performance system (including controller logic, power delivery, and powerpack management) is designed as an integrated, validated platform.

Restricting access ensures:

  • all diagnostics are based on known, controlled configurations
  • system performance remains consistent and predictable
  • any issues can be accurately identified and resolved

Unauthorised changes to internal settings can:

  • void warranty coverage
  • interfere with system calibration
  • make it difficult to determine the root cause of any performance concerns

In Summary

FONZ vehicles are intentionally designed with fixed, validated configurations to ensure:

  • compliance with ADR requirements
  • legal road use
  • system integrity and reliability
  • fair and accurate warranty support
