LAMS Approval – FONZ Arthur & Z Series
All FONZ Arthur models, including the Z Series, are LAMS approved and can be ridden on a learner or provisional licence in Australia.
How LAMS Compliance Works
LAMS eligibility is determined by a power-to-weight ratio calculation:
Power (kW) ÷ (curb weight in kg + 90 kg)
The additional 90 kg accounts for the combined weight of a rider and fuel.
Check an Official Example (NSW)
You can view an official state listing here (NSW Government): [Approved motorcycles for novice riders] and search Fonzarelli 125 on the NSW Approved Motorcycles List
LAMS is a nationally agreed scheme, but lists are maintained at a state level and may not always reflect the latest models immediately.
Not Listed in My State?
Some state-based LAMS lists can take time to update and may not always reflect the most current models.
All FONZ Arthur and Z Series models are engineered to meet LAMS requirements, including the prescribed power-to-weight ratio under Australian regulations. This means they are compliant for learner and provisional riders, even if they do not yet appear on every state list.
If you’re unsure, we’re happy to help confirm eligibility or provide supporting specifications for your local authority.
Electric Motorbike Advantage
For electric scooters/motorcycles:
- Curb weight = dry weight (no fuel or fluids required)
- This simplifies the LAMS calculation and helps maintain compliance
Why FONZ is Ideal for New Riders
